Scituate

Scituate, incorporated in 1636, was first settled in 1628 by merchant adventurers from Kent, England. Because of its natural deep harbor, Scituate quickly became a very prosperous town. Early occupations included fishing, milling, brick making and shipbuilding. The Columbia, the first American vessel to sail around the world was built in Scituate.

The Scituate of today is unusually pleasant blend of old and new. Careful planning and respect for natural resources are reflected in the way that new homes, schools and other modern facilities blend into the wooded landscape and the colonial architecture.

The harbor is a picturesque and thriving center of business, the cliffs, rocks and beaches that dot Scituate’s coastline are both beautiful and exhilarating, and the town is quaint and inviting. Everything has been added has not disturbed the special charm and unique atmosphere that is Scituate.
